The Mustard Seed Venture is a group of people seeking to deeply understand, collectively experience and freely extend what the historical Jesus referred to as “the kingdom,” by following his teachings and by drawing inspiration from anywhere that we see the kingdom manifest. The main focus of our conversations will be on how to apply our understandings of what the historical Jesus and related kingdom teachings and experiences are all about, and on how to apply those ideas in our daily lives. We are seeking to experience and extend God’s love and care to our loved ones, strangers, and those that we might normally see as our enemies. Are you interested in this kind of journey? If so, why?
I am a founding member of the Mustard Seed Venture. I have been a seeker since my early twenties and found my spiritual path in my mid-twenties, "A Course in Miracles. I am now in my mid-fifties. I have been interested in Jesus and the kingdom since my teens and continue to discern the path he has laid out for me, which is represented in this venture. I really look forward to joining with others to discover and experience the kingdom of God; where His generous care envelopes us and inspires us to generously and indiscriminately love and care for those who are in need.
We envision a network that creates an experience of the kingdom, both in its content and conversations. We therefore ask that all posts have a respectful tone, and a kingdom-like posture towards others. A helpful rule of thumb is to keep in mind if we are referring to another person or members of another group or faith, we write the post as if they might at some point be reading it. What draws you to a desire to manifest Jesus’ teachings in this world, such as love, forgiveness, healthy relationships, community and helping others?
I believe Jesus learned how to be free of all suffering in this world by tapping into God's kingdom of love and care and then bringing this power to others by releasing them from the burdens and ills of the world. I believe if I take his teachings to heart, and attempt to follow in his footsteps, I will end up experiencing this ever-present love and care of God's kingdom, just as he did, and also be able to genuinely give it to others. I also believe that any progress in this direction, however little or halting, is worth it. I take great strength in joining with others in this venture because I know I cannot do it without others. In fact, this is a path of relationship and joining. Therefore, a community based on discerning and living out the message of God's indiscriminate love and care, as seen throughout the teachings of Jesus, is very important to me. I am strengthened when anyone allows the kingdom to be expressed through them. I also feel that I am more readily able to walk in its direction when I walk with others inspired by and dedicated to this venture.
Please tell us a little general information about yourself, so we can begin to get to know you. What kind of work do you do? What are your interests?
I grew up in Southern California and moved to Sedona, Arizona in 1990 and have been here ever since. I have held many varied work positions but have been slowly committing more and more to fulfilling my spiritual vocation. I became ordained as an Interfaith minister in 2007 and have done some guest speaking at some local churches, volunteered as a hospice chaplain, and continue to officiate weddings here in Sedona. I also work part-time at Big Brothers Big Sisters as an office manager. I am currently single. I like to take walks, go to movies with friends, and I am starting to ride my bike again to stay in shape.
Is there anything else you would like to share?
Just that I really look forward to experiencing the kingdom with all of you!
