WHAT DOES THE SHROUD OF TURIN MEAN? By Robert Perry
[Author’s note: This article was written for the Shroud of Turin Website (shroud.com) in 1998. Since then, the science of the Shroud has moved forward, especially in regard to the 1988 carbon-dating. At that time, the leading theory about the carbon-dating was the bioplastic coating theory ofDr. Leoncio Garza-Valdes. That theory, however, has since that time been all but disproven. The leading theory currently is the “invisible reweave” theory, which holds that the corner of the Shroud that was dated was the site of an expert sixteenth-century reweave, invisible to all but the trained eye. In 2005, this theory received surprising support from renowned chemist the late Dr. Ray Rogers, who published evidence in the scientific journal Thermochimica Acta that the area of the Shroud that was dated was chemically different than the rest of the Shroud.]
